McGill University is excited to participate in 5 Days for the Homeless again this year! 5D4H McGill is a student-run organization that aims to increase awareness of homelessness and collect donations for local charitable organizations in Montreal, Chez Doris and Dans La Rue, which support homeless and at-risk women and youths respectively. This year our goal is to raise $12,000!
The main fund-raising event consists of five days in which volunteers make personal sacrifices to gain a better understanding of the reality of homelessness, which entail forgoing comforts in order to live outside on campus for the duration of the event. During that time volunteers attempt to sleep outdoors regardless of temperature, with only a sleeping bag (and maybe a pillow), without income and only through food received by direct donation; while at the same time attending to their academic responsibilities (yes, we still go to class).
We will be sleeping outside the Redpath Library and will be canvassing during the day at the Y-Intersection! We have a number of activities planned in the evenings, including a sandwich making event!
