Abel is a 3rd year student at the U of M's Asper School of Business. He’s been involved with the CSA since his first year at the university!
Why I am doing this:
Having been born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya, I grew up with a very different perspective on homelessness. In Kenya, there is a lot less assistance from the government and soup kitchens are foreign to most people. Essentially, due to the lack of options homelessness was either a gateway to a life of crime, or a death sentence. This is what led to me volunteering to be a sleeper for this year’s campaign. I'm hoping to be able to empathize better with the plight of the homeless and also learn about the unique challenges faced and hopefully find a way to make a positive impact on the community. At some point in the future I hope to start a charity in my home country - or partner with one - to improve the quality of life for those living in slums in the city and in rural areas with little access to modern luxuries and essential services - such as schools and hospitals.
